Autobiographical Essay

Hello, my name is Kabe Termes. I currently am finishing my last semester at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming and will be graduating in May '08 with a degree in Journalism. Ever since I can remember I have had a passion for news and a fascination with the world around me. I dabbled in the arts throughout high school but it wasn't until I received a camera for my 16th birthday that I discovered my true talent and passion, photography.

I joined the school paper and within a semester was promoted to Photo Editor. I loved it and decided I had found my career. My commitment to this profession was tested right a way, however. The summer after I graduated high school I got a job as the one photographer working on a project that required me leaving my family and friends for an extended period of time to travel across South Dakota and photograph over fifty cities. This was not an easy assignment, but as time went on and I adjusted to what my boss wanted I discovered that even though I was in a sink or swim situation I was still having a great time. Since then I have had several other photo jobs and I feel that I have grown as a photographer with each assignment.

I grew up in a very artistic family and because of that I have a unique way of looking at everyday events. I think some of my better qualities include my attention to detail and my obsession with getting the right shot. The amazing thing about a good picture is that it can change the world without ever saying a word. They say a photo is worth a 1,000 words, but a good photo doesn’t require an explanation.
