To Whom It May Concern:
This is a letter of recommendation for Kabe Termes to work at your publication as a photojournalist.

Kabe interned for me at the Wyoming Tribune Eagle as a photographer during the summer of 2008. In his short time as a member of our staff, Kabe grew as both a photographer and as a professional journalist. His eager nature and interest to learn the craft of photography set him apart from many young people in this profession. In my 20-plus years as a photojournalist, many opportunities to mentor young shooters have arisen. Of those individuals who I am pleased to have mentored, Kabe is among the top of the group, both technically and professionally.

In three months, I never had to repeat myself to Kabe. If he had questions or concerns regarding an assignment or a particular technique, he expressed them to me. Each day Kabe grew in his understanding of journalism and strived for consistency in his images. If I had the luxury to hire another shooter on my staff, I would hire Kabe in a second.

Even after Kabe completed his internship at the WTE to seek a full-time position, he again impressed me with his enthusiasm to expand his portfolio. One of our full-time staff photographers took a medical leave of absence in late August and Kabe, without question, drove six hours from his parents' home in Spearfish, S.D. to fill in for two weeks. During that time he was an integral part of the paper's production. He shot for nearly two weeks straight without a break. The consistency of his work during those two weeks, and his internship for that matter, impressed everyone in the newsroom a great deal. As photojournalists, we are likely to make a great image at some point in our careers, but the photographers who prove consistent under the daily grind are those who excel. I truly believe that Kabe is among those young shooters who are excelling.

I could go on all day about my former intern's capabilities as a photographer, and more importantly, his genuinely good attitude and work ethic, but I will put it simply – Kabe Termes would make a valuable addition to any photo staff. He is going to make it in this business be-cause he knows how to work, and he is always ready to learn. Thank you for taking the time to read my recommendation of Kabe Termes, and if you have an questions, I can be easily reached at the two phone numbers provided at the top of this letter.

Sincerely,
Michael Shane Smith,
